Alicia Charlton, Principal Clarinet, Board member

Alicia c (30K)

Alicia Charlton, now in her 7th season as principal clarinetist, is an active freelance musician and teacher in the Portland area. She currently serves as the orchestra representative to the PCSO Board. She also holds positions with Portland Chamber Orchestra and Newport Symphony and is a regular substitute with the Portland Opera Orchestra.

She has performed in numerous orchestras and musical theatre productions, including the Oregon Symphony, Portland Festival Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Walla Walla Symphony, Mock's Crest's "Gilbert & Sullivan" productions, Broadway Rose Theatre Co. and Pixie Dust Productions.

Alicia also delights in exploring the chamber music repertoire with various ensembles at every opportunity, especially with her quartet, "Clarinets á la Mode". She has attended Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music Summer Festival in New Hampshire and annually attends "Into the Woods", a local chamber music retreat, where she plays her heart out with like-minded chamber music aficionados.

In her previous lives, Alicia has been a midwife, a devoted mother of two wonderful sons, a volunteer tutor, an event planner and she has served on several boards. After a long hiatus, she finally came to her senses and joyfully picked up her clarinet again. When she is not playing music, Alicia pursues her other passions of pottery, gardening, reading, cooking for friends and playing with her adorable granddaughter.
